Day 51-56

Lessons in faith. Every day is a new lesson in believing God. Each day a new is a new revelation. Sis says that it all seems so connected and related. It’s true. Whenever we need an answer it seems to spring right out at us. God has been teaching us a lot lately about dealing with fear. Fear is to the devil what faith is to God. The devil tries to get us to act on or give voice to fear by placing images and thoughts in our minds in order to produce worry. Worry is simply meditating on fear. We refuse worry and fear by “ ... casting down imaginations ...” according to II Chor. 10:5.

It’s important not to give voice to fear. Our words are the main way we release faith or fear. Words are very important to God. In Mark 11:23 Jesus talks about using faith. He mentions believing once and saying three times. Sis and I are learning to pay attention to what we say.

Friday night we were driving around and by accident came upon a high school football jamboree. We love these things. We’ve gone to one every year for the last twenty years or so. It was unseasonably, and pleasantly “crisp”. It really had the feel of football weather.

Saturday night we went to the Drive-in at Dickson. The thing I love about the drive-in is that it doesn’t really matter what the movie is. It’s all about the tailgating. Everybody who goes seems to have a unique style. Some people go to the snack bar, but the majority drag out the coolers and lay out a spread. The lawn chairs come out, the music starts up, and the party is on. Once the movie starts the excitement wanes. Hollywood just can’t compete with the pageantry of Saturday night drive-in tailgating.

Sunday we go to church. It takes an hour and a half to get there and we listen to teaching tapes all the way there and back. This is pretty much what we do all the time. Proverbs 4:20-22 says, “ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”

We definitely “attend to the word”.
