Update 20October 19 (Sis) Tuesday Afternoon . . . J and I are in the Vanderbilt Clinic waiting for the results of my blood work. If I have magnesium levels of 1.8 or better I am out of here. If not, I am going to get the needle. It's really okay either way. God works wonders and my sticks never hurt. Even the BIG needle “Burt” uses in the CT scanning rooms. I do mention to him we would like a smaller needle as we are people and that big needle should be reserved for bringing down rhinos or possibly elephants (I’ve consulted with several patients). I also remind him that I could stick myself if I had the gear. Sometimes he has no sense of humor…..I see him on Friday. 2:15 I’ve said hello to my favorite Nurses. I’m wearing my new blonde wig hat (I don’t know why I call it a hat) today. My hair is still coming in, but missing on top. I have a brown, blonde, and am ordering a red one for the Christmas season! They make me look a lot less like Barney Fife. These wigs are synthetic (not human hair). As usual I really didn’t read any instructions….I just plugged up the curling iron……how hard can it be? Luckily, J read the instructions. Apparently if you use any hot device on it melting hair is the result. That was close……. I am so thankful this last week to have been invited to several events at SunTrust. It was so good to see all those folks that I love as well as the shiny new faces. Thank you Deb. 2:45 It’s been 45 minutes. No word yet. Susan has been waiting several hours for her infusion. Apparently they mix several drugs at a specific temperature. They’ve missed it twice. Most patients take combo drugs that the lab prepares. These lovely Nurses make sure everything is exact. I smell fries and a Big Mac. I think I’ll wander over there and see if they can spare a couple………Nope, all gone. I guess I’ll just eat this banana…. 3:00 I am feeling fine. God is with J and I every second of the day. Vanderbilt has allowed me to talk to several patients new to the program. I grab J, my Bible, and thank God for the opportunity. J can really pray the house down. 3:15 I have the results…..I am 1.7 and must be infused. No problem. I think I see donuts over there. 4:00 Dori just hooked me up. Love her. She is so caring. We have a deal. Whenever I get infused we run that med through at a very fast rate (500). I can take it and the whole infusion process is only an hour. 4:30 I don’t think I’m going to make the Neil Diamond concert tonight. He is a great song writer. He probably wouldn’t remember two years ago when I knocked him to the ground at the Green Hills Grille. I was charging down the hallway and didn’t see him. I was late and practically running. I looked down and it was Neil Diamond. As I helped him up he asked if I was ok…nice man. I also ran into Michael McDonald in the parking lot. I was being taunted by the servers after the ND incident, so I had to do it. People were watching. I asked him if he wouldn’t mind talking to me so I could have a free lunch the next day. Another prince of a man. I saw him a week later at a charity event. I had my hand stuck up the coke machine trying to get my drink. He helped me get the coke and asked me if I was following him….. Then there was the Reba McIntire incident at the Grille. She was there with a bunch of kids and another lady. I had just seen a movie called Tremors. I thought she was terrific and told her she should do a sitcom. She said no one had ever said that to her…….the rest is history. 5:15 I am infused in record time! Maybe we’ll stop at the GHG for a bite…… Sandy |
