| The Symphony of Guitars is the continuing evolution of an art form begun by guitarist/inventor Les Paul. Les invented multi-track recording and became the godfather of overdub with hits such as "Lover", "Caravan", and "How High the Moon". "The New Sound" as Les called it, was exotic, adventurous, and space-age. A distinguishing characteristic of the "Sound" was the frenzy of Les' guitars. Les acheived this by layering multiple tracks of his guitar, first by recording sound-on-sound, and later by multi-tracking. Both of these techniques were invented by Les. |
